As an artist, I follow the things that inspire me, so I have several different interests and styles.

 

During the lockdown of 2020, like many others, I began painting landscapes, thrilled by the possibility of creating vast atmospheric spaces on canvas. Thanks to internet I was able to improve my drawing by a year of study with the Sadie Valeri Atelier.

 

I find charcoal to be a satisfying medium for portraiture, because of its hands-on nature and the way in which it can be so freely manipulated to create atmosphere.

The most consistent inspiration for me is the religious. I painted my first icon in 2007 (because I couldn’t afford to buy one!), and have been continuing to learn and improve since then, including courses taught by Peter Murphy (2012) and Hannah Ward (2026).

As a priest in the Church of England I feel this is one of the ways in which my calling manifests itself for the church and hopefully for the wider world.
